“X FACTOR” DRIVES THE FINAL NAIL INTO THE COFFIN OF US TELEVISION TALENT SHOWS.

It’s been relentless.
It almost seems like a concerted campaign to drive it off a cliff and have it disappear forever.
Every day, there is a new damning story stopping “X Factor” from making any progress.
For years, Simon Cowell could do no wrong, darlings.
If he did, his Publicist Extraordinaire Max Clifford would be there to make the “bad stuff” go away.
Suddenly, the man would be getting “engaged” and this would deflect from his more serious problems.
But no more.
Not even in the UK where Cowell, though one of the most detested people in show-off business, can have Mr. Clifford become Mr. Fix It and make it all “nice” again, is he winning.
Those old “deflective” tactics are no longer working.
The Coming of Cowell’s “X Factor” to the US was being heralded as much as Obama bringing about real Change.
And we now know how much chump change the man has brought.
Same with Simon Cowell and his “X Factor”.
It just never ever met the levels of hype thrown the way of the media and consumers.
Remember how it was going to be that old team of Desi and Lucy?
Sorry, Simon and Paula- and some other people who don’t matter?
Yawno and wake me up, before you go-go.
Despite all the pre-launch hype, the age being lowered to some obscene level, US$5m in prize money, “X Factor” has not won over the media.
This marks one of the first times, the American entertainment media has got it and is calling fake for what it is: Fake, fake, fake.
It’s as fake as that chickie-boom-boom Kim Kardashian’s Big Ass Scam of a “wedding”.
As someone much smarter than me said, “American is not into fixes.”
Others, who have been part of the entertainment industry, call “X Factor” things like “mawkish self-indulgence.”
“Sentimental slush”, an “insult to one’s intelligence” and far worse.
Simon Cowell can go on every American talk show and “talk up” his show.
Or “talk up” his so-called “love life”.
Think all of the UK doesn’t know about the not-so-private life of Mr.Cowell?
Just subscribe to the UK’s email letter called Popbitch.
Nah, no one is buying whatever Simon Cowell is selling these days.
It’s all showbiz.
Perhaps he should marry Kim Kardashian.
Simon Cowell on talk shows has all the impact of Obama and his tele-prompted answers on, let’s say, a talk show by that other has-been- Jay Leno.
These guys have had their day.
They are old farts and still trying to appeal to old farts and America’s “evangelical Right.”
They are not Conan nor Jimmy Fallon nor Jon Stewart.
In this day and age and a world dogged by economic strife, entire countries falling apart and China owning most of them- balls and all- there has been a paradigm shift.
There have also been an intellectual and emotional shifts and a shift towards not accepting fakes.
Not in our personal lives, let alone something as insignificant as a television talent show and where many have got rich by selling people on “dreams” and bullshit.
Perhaps we have all grown up and got life’s priorities in order.
Some more than others.
