WILL ZAIDAN SCORE ON WEDNESDAY?

While all eyes will be on the Cathay Pacific International Jockeys Championship and when the Kings Of The Turf- some of the greatest riders in the world- compete in four designated races- the supporting card is excellent and led by the re-appearance of Zaidan in the last race of the evening.

Trained by Hong Kong’s “Cup King” in John Moore, Zaidan is an exceptionally talented horse that has had a few setbacks and looks to be returning to its lethal best.

With the prestigious Group 3 1800 metre January Cup looming up on the 11th of that month, Wednesday night’s race at the tight Valley tracks should be a very good lead-up race for the galloper and will top it off nicely for the big Cup race on the same track.

Moore has a good strike rate with his horses that are rated 100 and over and when they make their debuts at Happy Valley and, perhaps, Zaidan will be no exception.

Despite carrying top weight, he looks a class better than his opposition on Wednesday.

The question is race fitness and with the fly in the ointment being the John Size-trained Fulfil A Wish.

We doubt we have seen the best of this horse as yet as the astute John Size tries new training methods to tap its real potential.

Meanwhile, in the International Jockeys Championship, we see this as being a two-horse race between Douglas Whyte and Frankie Dettori.

They have the horses, they have the barriers and both can “read” the tricky Valley track very well.

It promises to be quite a night and yet another showcase for the in-form Douglas Whyte to shine.
