WILL RACE 10 AT SHATIN PROVE TO BE A 10 OUT OF 10 RACE?

Race 10 at Shatin tomorrow (Sunday) promises to be a race that will separate the men from the boys, the fillies from the eunuchs and the rising stars of the turf from those who will stand still as good Class 3 horses.
For those new to horse racing – and which is what we are all about here – this is the race that brings together the unbeaten Longwah Supreme and Gift Is Gift.
Longwah Supreme
Gift Is Gift
Longwah Supreme is unbeaten after two races and Gift Is Gift has an unbeaten record of four wins.
Both are three-year-olds and what one must remember is that it’s always hard for younger horses to tackle more “mature” and experienced horses.
Which brings us to two other horses in the race – Captain Sweet who won five races on the trot last season – and the top weight Eagle Regiment.
Captain Sweet & Darren Beadman
Of course, jockeys, barrier draws, track conditions, riding tactics etc will all play an important role in the end result.
As we all know, horses are not machines and many are there to be beaten and are never “automatic winners.”
However, as part of “getting to know your horses” and some of Hong Kong’s rising stars of the turf, this race will provide you with plenty of information on who and what to follow next season.
Who do we like?
We like Longwah Supreme but worry a bit about the barrier draw.
Plus, its overnight odds are appallingly short.
The other horse in the same race that we will be taking a great interest in is King Mossman.
King Mossman & Douglas Whyte
It won over 1200 metres at Shatin and beat Bear Hero before flopping when it tackled the tight Happy Valley track for the first time.
Trainer John Size has the horse back at Shatin tomorrow and with regular rider Dougie Whyte on board, it would not surprise us to see it win – and at good odds.
Win, lose or draw, Race 10 promises to be a very interesting race and where a bona fide equine Rising Star will emerge.
