We all thought it would be that dynamic duo of trainer Caspar Fownes and jockey Brett Prebble who would rock the Valley last night.
But no, it was – huh – Terry C W Wong who rode – wait for it – a race-to-race DOUBLE!
More on this later, but first of all, it was great to see that famous swordsman and jockey Gerard Mosse back in Hong Kong and taking out the last race on Mr Bond for trainer Peter L Ho.
Frankly, we barely noticed that this brilliant jockey was even back riding in Hong Kong.
But at his first night back, he made his followers very Happy Wednesday Fans.
As for the Fownes-Prebble combo, it got off to a good start in Race 3 with the win from Snitzel Kid and the second placing of Track Lightning in the next.
After that, it was like dominoes falling with the mere flick of a baby’s fingers.
Peppermint, Many Gains, Green Zero, they all bit the dust for the Fownes-Prebble combination along with the LOUDEST tip on the course in the last – Prebble’s ride for Manfred “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” Man in Great Achievement.
It was a strange night of racing- a bit of the Good, The Bad and the Fugly- and where the winners were not hard too find – but the reasons for the losers left us a bit bewitched, bothered and bewildered.
And, as predicted here and mentioned earlier, the very “unfashionable” local jockey Terry C W Wong, who is battling to retain his jockey’s license in Hong Kong, riding a double.
Yes, and with both horses backed for a stack.
We might not get it right all the time, but we do know who the jockeys are who MUST have winners.
And there will be more from Terry C W Wong and quite a few of these coming from the stable of David Hall.
We actually LOVE the support “Hally” gives Wong.
Keep following this combination – only at Happy Valley – and Gerard Mosse anywhere.
Mosse truly separates the men from the boys and remains one of Hong Kong racing’s true USPs – Unique Selling Points.
He is a joy to watch.
Terry C W Wong?
Well, every dog has his day.
