THE OLD BISTRO MANCHU OPENS AGAIN AS MANCHU CHINA RESTAURANT

THE DARK SIDE OF HONG KONG NIGHT LIFE 1

When Bistro Manchu in Elgin Street closed its doors at the end of last year, many of us fans of the restaurant shed a little tear.

After all, some of us romanced our lovers there whereas where were we were to find a Manchurian restaurant with such wonderful dishes like the Cumin Lamb or Beef, the vegetarian dumplings, the Tiger Salad and the diced Chicken with Walnuts?

The good news is that the old Bistro Manchu has opened under a new name- and in the same location with the very same dishes?

What’s happened is when the somewhat dithering owner of Bistro Manchu had problems with the rental increase and decided to give up keeping the restaurant going, her former staff decided to trump their old boss by taking over the premises.

Today, former Manager Tom- a real character- seems to be running the show with the original chef back and given the freedom to do what he does best- preparing the delicious Cumin Beef, the Shredded Chicken with Garlic, the Roast Chicken with even MORE Garlic and the Green Beans with Shredded Pork- and garlic being outstanding- and all including beer, wine and Pita bread pockets and dumplings for four costing us around $338 for each.

Call it what you will, but the new Bistro Manchu is even better than it was whereas the staff seems far happier without having to deal with their extremely lost, confused and meddlesome former boss.
