MUSIC ROCKS THE VALLEY
Fashion has styled the Valley, Wines have popped at the Valley and as from tomorrow and for the next three Happy Wednesdays, Music Rocks The Valley.
Music, “Rock”, it’s all subjective, but any place in Hong Kong with ‘live’ music is a bonus- especially when it’s outdoors and at such a unique venue as Happy Valley Racecourse. Headline acts for these next few weeks are the Universal Hong Kong band Mr, 24 Herbs and Hummingbird recording artist G.E.M.

Sure, there will be many at the track to whom these names mean nothing at all. But Happy Wednesdays are all about a certain vibe which is missing in Hong Kong. We can’t explain what it is, but it’s a combination of things which make a Happy Wednesday a Happy Valley Wednesday- people, horse racing, music, beer, excitement, more people, more music, winning, grinning, friendship, venues- and not just at the Beer Garden. There is also the Club at the race track that is Adrenaline with its I B U table where one can rationalize, analyze and adrenalized and the new racing-themed restaurant called The Gallery where one can kinda stimulate the censors with the new iPad app that is The Race Simulator.
Oh, someone else performing will be relative newcomer Justin Lim who has been touring with Canto-legend since he was 16 and who just might steal the thunder from the bigger local names. The guy is all about having fun- and sings in English.

Don’t expect Led Zeppelin or anything to blast you into oblivion. Let’s not scare the horses, shall we? Plus, this is Hong Kong and where we “rock” very politely.
However, for a series of Wednesday where it’s all about people inter-acting with people, watching and having a Go at some of the most best racing in the world and with everything mixed together with beer, food and just simple good times, this is the place to be. And all this for an entrance fee of only HK$10. Beats the hell outta hanging out around Soho and Wyndham Street with all those desperate “dudes” and “dudettes.”

NOEL GALLAGHER TO PLAY HONG KONG IN SEPTEMBER- BUT HK$888 FOR A TICKET???
Oh, come on, promoters! It’s a cute lucky number in Chinese, but HK$888 to see one member of Oasis???
Would have MAYBE been worth it if Liam was onstage, drunk and both of them ended in a brawl.

“RUN”: FAST TRACK’S FAVORITE POSSIBLE SONG ABOUT HORSE RACING!
Frankly, we, too, wouldn’t mind watching Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles undressing and “swallowing us whole” and making our knees buckle.
She is one helluva woman- and what an amazing song.
Matt Nathanson is not too shabby either and reminds us of Bono- at least on this track.

HUH? DOUGLAS WHYTE: “HONG KONG IDOL”?
We all have different “idols” or those we admire.
To us, it’s everyone from Bob Dylan and Mother Teresa to Bill Clinton, Rahm Emmanuel and Aung Sang Suu Kyi.
For 20-year-old Douglas Chan, well, his idol is Hong Kong’s Champion Jockey, Douglas Whyte.
Born Chan King-pong, he even gave himself the English name of Douglas.
What makes him such a fan of the only jockey in Hong Kong who has won eleven consecutive Jockey Premierships and looks certain to add his twelfth?
Here, listen to Douglas Chan explain why.

THE HAPPY WEDNESDAY NEW SOCIAL NETWORK OF THE WEEK: WWW.LITTLEMONSTERS.COM
One thing about Lady Gaga is that she’s constantly evolving and what she might lack in songwriting chops, he makes up for in her creativity.
Many of us have seen this creativity in her brilliant ‘live’ performances in concert and have seen the way she is always- always- in the public eye.
Of course, Madonna disses her and her song “Born This Way” as a re-hash of Lady Madonna’s “Express Yourself”, but Gaga puts on one of outrageous dresses, gets out there for her Little Monster Fans and no one cares about who ripped off what.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHywJ3ySKNQ
Now comes Gaga’s latest venture- or adventure- or even misadventure: The start-up of her own Little Monsters social networking site.
So, is this just another regular fan site for artists but propped up through hype?
Well, not according to Lady Gaga.
Time will tell if this is a success or will go the way of other highly hyped Gaga projects such as being made “Creative Director” of Polaroid and which has resulted in squat and way too many Gaga products and idea that have fallen by the wayside. Check it out at www.littlemonsters.com
