THE GURU ON THE NATIONAL DAY MEETING AT SHATIN

How one does at Shatin’s National Day Meeting today will depend on the weather and the current state of the track and what it might become if the rains come down.
If on the soft side from the get-go, how cut-up will it be around the time of Race 7?
Time will tell, but time can also play a role between winning and losing.
Entrapment should enjoy the going, but I am really unsure how the other John Size horses will fare on the going – IF the track will have any give in it.
Is Entrapment a “shoe-in”?
Firstly, there’s no such thing.
Secondly, it’s the horse’s first up run after a long time and finally, Sweet Sanette and, of course, Sacred Kingdom, are not exactly also-rans.
Having said all this, my little papadums and birdie num nums, I reckon it will win.
The “odds” say that after drawing a very big blank on Wednesday, Douglas Whyte WILL be at the fore today.
But then again, that’s what many thought would happen mid-week when he was on hot pots Able Speed, Redoute Star, Ottimo and King Mossman.
All did not even run a place.
Whyte today LOOKS to have the horse power, but Ambitious Dragon drawn barrier 10 and over 1400?
Hmmmm, no good thing and not with Flying Blue around and one I REALLY like today.
National Treasure might be the Omen Bet for this National Day Meeting, but, with top weight, can it beat the very smart Smart Giant? And even Jacobee?
Again, Time will tell.
Away from Dougie Whyte, many eyes will be on the very impressive last start winner – Blue Caviar.
The ride has gone to Matthew Chadwick – Whyte who won on it at its debut couldn’t make the weight – and it should have a good chance to win its race.
If it does, Hong Kong businessman and former owner of Portsmouth FC – Balu Chainrai – and the 100,000 people in the Diogenes Syndicate which races the horse will be there for the winning photo.
Matthew Chadwick riding for trainer Danny C S Shum?
Has this ever happened before?
The Guru will make Flying Blue his banker on to everything in Race 8 and leave out Ambitious Dragon.
Earlier on, I like Ambitious Owner and Grandfield for a quinella/place bet in Race 1, High Loft in Race 3 and Mochi and Chanceller as another quinella/place.
All in all, however, I shall be treading warily – and maybe wearily – as the state of the track, the weather and those very accurate plunges will be what The Guru will be following today.
Tomorrow The Guru will be in Japan cheering on Singapore’s Rocket Man with the great Felix Coetzee aboard.
To me, Hong Kong’s Lucky Nine and Green Birdie won’t get near it.
In fact, I am not even sure they will even run a place.
