Only advice- NOT tips- news, views and dim sung weirdness like below where Amigo Brett “Skitty” Davies checks to see if everything is still there. Note that there are no expenses spared on the set including a mini cupboard that doubles as a loo and green carpeting to complement the green screen.
Race 1
A 1650 metre dirt race where your guess is as good as mine.
SELECTIONS: 2-1-7-11
Race 2
A 2000 metre race worth watching just to see if Italians Umberto Rispoli and Mirco Demuro take off mid-race and throw the best laid plans way outta whack.
SELECTIONS: 5-11-12-8
Race 3
Another dirt race and where I don’t care who wins it. There are better things to do- like hitting the buffet table and seeing if Attila and her Sons have run off with all the oysters, prawns, lobsters, sushi and sashimi. It’s a Hong Kong kinda thing.
Mention the word “buffet” and a Mars Attack takes place with the first things to be zapped being the oysters and lobster. “All you can eat” is taken very literally.
As for this race, I’m still waiting for the day when Umberto Rispoli rides Hello Kimberley seeing that Kimberley Mosse is his fiancée. Would be the omen bet of the day.
SELECTIONS: 8-11-1-5
Race 4
I don’t care what anyone says, but Brett Prebble is riding as well as any other jockeys with the limited number of opportunities he gets these days when compared to those seasons of yore when sparring and going toe-to-toe with Douglas Whyte, which seems like an eternity ago.
Prebble should go very close here with Unique Happiest for very relaxed trainer Almond Lee, the Dean Martin of Hong Kong racing, who almost trains his horses from the comfort of his bed.
SELECTIONS: 12-13-8-9-3
Race 5
Karis Teetan might not be riding trebles and four-timers, but he keeps chipping in winners as he did again on Wednesday night aboard Fabulous November, and should go very close on Shining Champion for John Size, who has been extremely supportive of the young and very respectful and likeable Mauritian rider.
SELECTIONS: 7-14-9-3-2
Race 6
A dirt race over 1800 metres with my voodoo horse Autumn Gold the usually overnight favourite to mislead punters, and being the last leg of the Triple Trio, be a good Boy Scout and Be Prepared for a Horse Aplenty upset.
SELECTIONS: 4-14-2-8
Race 7
Much has been written about Peniaphobia drawing barrier 1 and not the luxury of an outside barrier for this 1000 metre sprint, but, jeez, people, there are only eight runners in this race!
Frankly, even if drawn the widest barrier, I’d take Peniaphobia on as I think it’s more suited to 1200 metres these days, and though only a bloody fool would leave it out, my first choices would be Bundle Of Joy with the very much untapped Smart Volatility to upset.
SELECTIONS: 5-1-7
Race 8
Another chance to see Joao Moreira take Able Friend around for an exhibition gallop. Yes, I REALLY think you can take this one out in your Six Ups and Trebles. Odds are that you’ll also grab the Quartet.
While John Moore will be holding aloft the Stewards Cup after Able Friend’s walk in the park, it was good to see our heavily botoxed old mate and former Champion Hong Kong jockey and former Champion Trainer in Macau-Gary Moore- train a winner on Thursday in NSW when Tommy Berry jogged in on his galloper Final Conqueror at Wyong.
Sent off at 2.10 it was never gonna lose whereas on the same day, this time at Seymour, Price Bloodstock saw their Robert Smerdon-trained Davaluri, though sent out a hot favourite, only manage a disappointing second when ridden by Damien Oliver in a seven-horse field. Interesting: The gelding’s dam is Lang Loi, which means “pretty girl” in Chinese. Priceless.
SELECTIONS: (1)-4-5
Race 9
If Eroico disappoints again as a hot pot- and it easily could- prepare for an upset to add value to your Six Up and third Double Trio.
SELECTIONS: (6)-2-5-9-12
Race 10
A very good race to end the day where Brilliant Shine, though up a class, but with only 124 on its back, and IF all is okay after quite a long absence from racing could provide another winner for Team Yip-Purton. But it’s a VERY iffy proposition and I’d take it on.
SELECTIONS: 14-11-9-5
