We are starting to understand- and appreciate- this new initiative of trainers being able to “trump” two horses per race meeting.
In very basic terms, this means, being able to select two horses which will have a very good chance of not being balloted out.
In other words, the odds are that they will gain a run in the race.
This season, apart from being one of the new “Kings Of The Valley”, veteran local trainer Peter Ng is also “The King Of Trumps”.
His record of having horses he has trumped to take their place in races have quite an incredible strike rate.
This strike rate grew last night at Happy Valley when another of his “trump cards” in Super Plus easily won Race 5 with apprentice Ben So aboard.
Drawn a good barrier over the 1000 meters race, Super Plus was never going to lose.
It just swamped them at the end and won as a favorite should. Easily.
We would now like to know each time a trainer “trumps” their horses.
More likely than not, it means the horse has been set for their races and well worth following.
