Yes, despite the huge audience ratings, “dull” has been the most used word to describe yesterday’s Grammy event.
We’re unsure that it was “dull” so much as it was a mish-mash and, perhaps, a much-needed break from what can be described as “fake music” and theatrics.
Adele reminded everyone that style can never win over substance.
This lovely lady has single-handedly saved the music industry and business.
Just don’t have Elton John record a duet with her: That would be a career wrecker.
Last night, there was no need for Gaga to appear outta an egg, there was not a Kardashian in sight, no Simon Cowell and no one giving anyone the finger.
The Super Bowl Half-Time show was probably “more hip” than the Grammy’s but with the passing away of Whitney Houston the night earlier, perhaps the Producers were walking on eggshells and playing it safe.
It was a situation for them of damned if you do and damned if you don’t- and how dare you- all of which meant going with known mainstays of the music industry who wouldn’t go up onstage and do anything fucking weird.
David Grohl made a good case for the music of the heart and head versus technology and should have just exited stage instead of having to be drowned out by the “time’s up, dude” music.
Still, hey, he’s David Groh and he’s working on some weirdly wonderful projects.
Was LL Cool J the right host? Well, he wasn’t “wrong”, but the Grammys probably needed a Russell Brand or a Jimmy Fallon.
Or should shave Jimmy Fallon host it next year and let him do what comes naturally to him. The man’s a genius and we don’t bandy that word around too much.
He’ll really rev up the Grammy’s creative-o-meter.

As for last night, there were the highlights, the lowlights and it’s now to just switch all those lights off and get back to the music.
It always has to come back to the music.
And Adele, Macca, Brian Wilson, Foo Fighters and a few others did exactly that.
