LET’S PUT IT THIS WAY

Horse racing can be complicated or it can be simple: It’s how easy or difficult you wish to make it.
On the Hong Kong Jockey Club website, for example, you can get all the information and statistics you need- past performances, speed maps, ratings, racing specialists and their opinions.
For all this information and much more on what the Club is doing, it’s all there at www.hkjc.com
For a more simple way of looking at horse racing and how to enjoy the sport without all the “pre-knowledge”, it’s right here.
Yes, we make racing simple.
Before each race-day, the HKJC focuses on one story of theme to help those who really know and understand the Ins and Outs and Sideways of racing.
Is this for everyone? Nah. Sometimes we read it and are on Information Overload and become even more confused.
This week, the focus is on Trainer Dennis Yip and two runners on Sunday- Yip’s Go Baby Go and Real Generous.
Dennis Yip is, without a doubt, the Chinese trainer all expatriate jockeys wish to ride for. Why? He has some very good horses, he has prove himself to be a very good trainer and top jockeys like Douglas Whyte, Brett Prebble and now Zac Purton reply on “Yippie Ki Yay, Motheraf*cker” for winners.
On Sunday, his Go Baby Go tackles 1000 metres again.
As it has proven, whether even drawn barrier 1- one of the worst barriers in Shatin over 1000 metres and where the higher barriers like 12,13 and 14 are the shortest way home- Go Baby Go has the speed to get to the front and play Catch Me If You Can.
So, though drawn barrier six, it should prove no problem especially when one considers that the horse it beat the last time it ran- Ultimate Winners- came out last weekend and showed what a good sprinter it is.
Go, baby, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, indeed!
As for Real Generous, well, the name might say it all and it could be ready to salute again.
It has an “awkward” barrier draw in 13 while it tackles 1800 metres and Mark Du Plessis’ navigation skills will have to be at their very best.
But like another “Real” horse – Real Specialist- this galloper oozes class and should be too good despite the barrier and D-Whyte should be able to get it across and travelling sweetly.
Real Specialist and Real Generous look like the real deal and are like the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie of the equine world: Classy- and knows it.
The horse we’ll be watching carefully is Wrath Of Fire- and in the same race as Real Specialist.
The connections of the horse are extremely keen to have it run in The Derby and to do so, it MUST win this race.
Trainer Derek Cruz is adamant that the horse- and it has been very good over this 1800 metres distance- is good enough to take on Hong Kong’s “rising stars.”
This race could develop into a two horse and two-jockey race- Whyte and Gerard Mosse who rides Wrath Of Fire and won on it at its last start.
Well, that’s how we see it, anyway, and that’s the way we’re putting it.
