Who will be sweeter?
The Captain or the Orange?
This is when John Moore’s Captain Sweet and David Ferraris’ Sweet Orange clash in the prestigious Panasonic Cup on Sunday.
The former has been last season’s most successful Subscription Griffin whereas Sweet Orange is one of Hong Kong rising stars of the turf.
What makes this clash even more interesting is the rivalry between Moore and Ferraris.
This was witnessed recently when the latter’s Chater Mikado, ridden by Brett Prebble, survived an objection fired in by the now-Moore trained Kyara and ridden by Darren Beadman.
Kyara was moved to the Moore yard when David Ferraris was away visiting his then-ailing father and there is no love-lost between the two trainers.
It will be Sweet Revenge if Sweet Orange were to beat Captain Sweet- and with Kyara in the same race!
We spoke with David Ferraris and he told us his charge is going “unbelievably well” and has only Captain Sweet to beat.
The one thing against the former- and ridden by the very much underrated Tye Angland- is the barrier draw of 8 whereas Captain Sweet, ridden by Beadman, is drawn barrier 13.
Jeff Lloyd is on Kyara.
We think it will be a Moore and Ferraris tierce and hope it unfolds like this script.
But one never knows when it comes to horse racing.
Okay, if we had to stick our neck out, we’ll go with Sweet Orange to win and upset the Moore apple cart!
