There have been conflicting whispers about whether Bridesmaid Prebble knocked Jungle John back or Jungle John knocked him back to be retained rider for the stable. Both knowing them, it sounds like an outrageous pissing contest and sadly for them it’s in a head-on wind. Would Bridesmaid Prebble even put up with the selfish and egotistic ways of Jungle John? The Dazzler did for 5 years until a horrific accident, but I doubt the Bridesmaid would put up with quarter of the silly buggers Johnny pulls, half of the dribbling from Captain Obvious George and all but doing the entries whilst Jungle John is on the beach and up to his island adventures.
Away from the doom and gloom and more exciting, Zac Purton is by far the best jockey in Hong Kong and if there is anyone who will be making it tough for Douglas Whyte, it will be him. Like everyone, Purton has his faults and unfortunately Purton does just tell people how it is. This is in no way a bad thing, but it has taken time for Purton to settle in to Hong Kong and become accustomed to the way of life, what people accept and dont accept. What some people don’t realise is that he was only in his mid twenties when he moved to Hong Kong so it was always going to take a couple of years to get the feel, i think he has his groove now.
Like Whyte, Purton is an excellent communicator. You only have to watch him when he talks to owners after the race, he uses his hands in describing the race and owners love nothing more than an enthusiastic jockey. I am in no way saying Whyte’s reign in Hong Kong is over just because he hasn’t ridden a winner in the first 2 meeting and more importantly the fat lady hasn’t even started gotten to the theatre to sing.
Personally I would back Purton over Whyte because lets face it, 13 is an unlucky number…….
