They are called “grease devils” and they are said to be used by the government in Sri Lanka to cause panic amongst a population that has historically been very superstitious and have always feared the occult.
For years, many of the locals have gone to see real-life witches to pay for spells to be put on enemies and family foes.
Traditionally, in Sri Lanka a “grease devil” was a thief who wore only underwear and covered his body in grease to make himself hard to grab, but the recent version has a reputation of attacks on women.
A few weeks ago, troops were used in the island to quell unrest spared by fears of attacks by these “grease devils.”

The government and it’s a transparently corrupt one- blamed the opposition for these attacks whereas the latter, in turn, accused the government of attempting to use the occult to empower President Mahinda Rajapaksa with female blood sacrifices.
